The Fault In Our Stars by John Green.

Today I'm going to do a review on the massively popular The Fault In Our Stars by John Green!
Synopsis - "I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, then all at once."
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

I started reading this book because I'd heard so many amazing things about it, so maybe I went into it with too high expectations, but I wasn't as blown away from first read as I thought I'd be!

The idea of the story itself is captivating, a story about kids with cancer where the cancer takes a backseat, isn't the forefront of the storyline, is very unique.

About halfway through the book I did start to get invested in the characters, start to care about them and worry about their future.

I did find the two lead characters Gus and Hazel a bit unbelievable at times, just because I've never met teenagers like these in my life, their vocabulary is more extensive than the Oxford English Dictionary and they speak in metaphors and monologues a lot of the time.
I would even go as far as to say I found Gus and Hazel (gasp! shock! horror!) irritating at times, which isn't something I've heard anyone else say about them so I really think it's just me!

On the other hand, I thought Hazels parents were written beautifully, John Green really captured the struggle that they were going through at what must be the most difficult time a parent can go through.

But on the whole, this is a good read, I maybe went into it with my expectations too high so I was left disappointed, but by the end I found the book enjoyable and found myself emotionally enriched for reading it, which I think is the point of reading, if you're left with something after the book, a new view on something, then that book will stay with you forever.
Rating - 3/5
