The Time Of My Life by Cecelia Ahern.

Hello bookworms!!
I'm going to do a review for you all today! I feel like it's been ages since I did a proper review, although I do mini reviews in my wrap-ups but they're not the same!

Today I'm doing a review for The Time Of My Life by Cecelia Ahern!
Synopsis - Are you taking your life for granted?
Lucy Silchester is. She’s busied herself with other stuff: friends’ lives, work issues, her deteriorating car, that kind of thing. But she’s stuck in a rut – and deluding everyone. Only Lucy knows the real truth.
Time for a wake-up call – a meeting with life. And life turns out to be a kindly, rather run-down man in an old suit, who is determined to bring about change – and won’t let Lucy off the hook.
Sometimes we all need to make time for our life…

This book has a really interesting premise, basically your life isn't just ''your life'', a force that just exists around you, it's an actual person! And the better you treat your life, the more risks you take and the more you follow your dreams, the happier your life (the person) will be.

For instance, when Lucy first meets her life she has lost her good job, lost her great boyfriend, she is shutting out her family and friends and the only person who is allowed in her house is her hermaphrodite cat (long story), but Lucy doesn't think anything is wrong with her life so on top of all that, she's in denial!
Safe to say when she comes face to face with her life he is in a bad way! Crumpled, cheap suit, bedraggled appearance and a surly attitude, Lucy can't believe her eyes!

She never envisaged that her life would look like this, sure, she knew she didn't have the best life, that she isn't the most accomplished woman in the world, but she never expected it to be this bad!
At first she resists her lifes best efforts to help her, she stops returning his calls and letters and eventually he takes some pretty...extreme measures to get her attention!

I really love the message in this book that everything that happens to you is just a series of coincidences and happy (or unhappy) accidents, every action has a reaction and everyone you meet changes you in some way, this is definitely how I like to view life and the book really made me think.

I really like Lucy as a heroine, she reminds me a lot of myself in some ways, the way she doesn't really know what she wants to ''do'' with her life in the long run and the way she gets scared of trying new things and taking chances, I'm sure we can all relate to these kinds of feelings at some point in our lives.

Another favourite character is Lucy's brother Riley, he's so supportive of his sister and always tries to save her bacon when her (really vile) father is picking on her about some element of her life being not quite perfect.
I also love Don, her love interest, the way she meets him is very in-keeping with the ''fated'' theme of the book, and he seems like a lovely guy, I especially liked the part where he stood up to her horrible father (as you can tell, I didn't like him!).

I won't dwell on her father because I don't want to end this review on a negative note, but he's such a horrible, bitter man.
Why Lucy lets him speak to her in the way he does without biting back I don't know!

All in all, this is another winner from Cecelia Ahern! She is probably my favourite author and this book was certainly no exception, especially the final paragraph in the book, it's a piece of beautiful writing that brought me to tears and really made me think about my life and how I treat it.
Rating - 5/5
